Redistricting Principle(s) Prioritized: Proportional Representation
Date: Apr 4, 2022
This proposed congressional redistricting plan aims to reflect the diverse interests and political preferences of Colorado’s rapidly growing population. With that goal in mind, this map emphasizes proportional representation of the two major political parties in Colorado. It does so by creating three safe Democratic districts, one that leans Democratic, two safe Republican districts, and two that lean Republican. This distribution is roughly proportional to Colorado's vote share, which has fallen between 48-55% Democratic and 40-46% Republican in recent presidential elections. The map also abides by Colorado's state constitutional requirements of contiguity, compactness, and keeping political subdivisions and communities of interest intact wherever possible.
