Redistricting Plan

Kansas Good Government

Picture of the districting plan
Author: Emma Leeds Armstrong
Redistricting Principle(s) Prioritized: Communities of Interest and Good Government
Date: Feb 1, 2022
This map aims to maximize compactness while minimizing county and community of interest splits. This map splits three counties (the same number as in the 2012 map). The majority-minority Wyandotte County, designated a community of interest by the Kansas Supreme Court (Essex v. Kobach, 874 F. Supp. 2d 1069, 1086 (D. Kan. 2012)), remains intact in the Third District, in contrast to the 2022 plan approved by the Kansas State Legislature that is currently with Governor Kelly for signature or veto. The minimal county splits within McPherson, Lyon, and Johnson Counties occur along state highways and attempt to preserve cities and towns to the greatest degree possible.
